The Scorpions found themselves a goal down twice in a thrilling match against the Strikers. Fort Lauderdale took the lead on 32 minutes after Andy Herron beat Scorpions goalkeeper Pat Hannigan.
San Antonio was able to draw level in the 41st minute after Pablo Campos tapped a deflected shot by Hans Denissen. Campos’ goal went down in history as the first goal by the San Antonio Scorpions.
The score line at halftime was 1-1.
Six minutes into the restart the Scorpions were down again after Herron scored his second on the night.
The Scorpions were able to react after falling behind for a second time. Second half substitute, Esteban Bayona, injected some new life into the Scorpions final third creating multiple goal-scoring opportunities.
Hans Denissen grabbed the equalizer for San Antonio in stoppage time after a cross from Campos.
Both teams ended the game with two players shown red cards.
The Scorpions will now travel to Carolina to take on the RailHawks on April 28 before returning home on May 5 when they host the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

The crowd made the night a memorable one creating a great atmosphere for a soccer match with chants, flags, drums and much more. Sponsors like TAG, The Snoring Mouthpiece Report, and Launchscore. A lot of the night featured important contributions to organizations like Darfur Peace And Development and the Autism Biomedical Information Network, which meant the fun also helped to create great change in the community.
It all started off early with tailgate parties out at STAR Soccer Complex and Morgan’s Wonderland. The three official supporter groups of the Scorpions led the march to the stadium just a few minutes before kickoff.
At the start of the match the Scorpions enjoyed early possession of the ball, but quickly found themselves down in the score line. The Islanders took an early lead and never let it go.
Only a few minutes later, the Scorpions had the opportunity to convert from the spot as Denissen earned a penalty kick, but failed to convert.
The team was able to create some chances, but was unable to find the back of the net. The result at full time was 0-4.
The Scorpions will look to regroup as they have a short week when they host the Fort Lauderdale Strikers next Saturday, April 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
